what is BENCHMARK
what is BENCHMARK ?
Who has not heard of the Benchmark? In every technical article about a new phone, in the leaks, in reviews of devices, but what does this word actually mean? And why is it of interest to many in the technical community and eager to know the outcome of any new device. In this article, I will answer these three questions to see what Benchmark is, why this interest in it ... and how to do it.
Benchmark ??
The literal translation of the word "Benchmark" is the indicator or the mark, and as a convention the meaning does not go far enough as it means performance index compared to previous standards or competitors. To be clear ... the word is not exclusive to technical use (although this is the most common recently), but it is also used in many areas such as the business world to measure the performance of companies against their market counterparts, and also in geography for pricing raw fuel based on market situation and other factors, and most likely. It was the first use of the word.
So as not to go far, in the technical field, Benchmark means measuring the performance of the device through tests and applications, and comparing it with the performance of other devices to determine the strength of the device's performance.
Benchmark has several fields, such as testing the graphics in the device, transfer speed and writing, processor performance, performance in general, and programs are classified from this perspective into two parts, the first measures that measure one area such as graphics, and the other performs multiple tests of the device. We will mention examples of both types at the end of the article.
Why ??
Perhaps the simplest answer to this question is to reach the best. Through the Benchmark results, the user can check the performance of the device before purchasing it, and take a prior look at the strength of the device compared to other devices in the phone market.
Here, I must mention the fraud in the Benchmark test results, which hit many large companies, and perhaps the first manufacturer in the world of Android is currently Samsung, as reports have appeared that Samsung has tampered with the test results to appear stronger .. But recently the company stated that it would not do such a thing. Later .
From my personal point of view: I do not see that it is considered cheating, as it has been reported that Samsung is programming the device to work at its maximum capacity when I tested the Benchmark, some considered it fraud because the device does not work at its maximum power except rarely, but I personally disagree with this opinion for two reasons:
1 - It is obvious that Samsung should do this because such tests were found to measure the device's maximum capacity from the ground up.
2- When you press the device to run a lot of programs, the device will automatically increase the resources used in the staging operation, and thus you will get what you want when the order is required.
How ?
It is very easy to do pancemark tests on smartphones, just download one of the specialized programs and start the test!
Among the most important Benchmark applications that measure the performance of the device in all respects:
AnTuTu
Quadrant
Linpack
Specialized applications:
3DMARK, a measure of graphics and hardware power in the gaming industry.
SunSpider, Java performance in your browser.
